The Chocolate Gift Company Shopify Website Design Case Study
Full rebrand and bespoke Shopify website design. The packaging was heavily influenced by the world of Wes Anderson. My job was to create an overarching brand that complemented the fun packaging without fighting with it. The result is a fun brand and shopping experience brought to life through quirky illustrations and animations.Site built by Dewsign.

Creating the quirky identity
This project was all about collaboration. The client had done such a fantastic job of creating the brand and making all the lovely and thoughtful products that were led by the packaging design. My role was to create an overarching identity that would compliment with the packaging.
The idea of the logomark was to showcase both side of the brand. The illustrative nature of the packaging along with the quirkiness and the unexpected, which is what led us to have the sans serif font along a wave.
Crafting the brand messaging lockup
The brand messaging encompassed everything that the brand is – illustrative, playful and quirky. I painstakingly crafted this to be able to work either at the minute 50mm packaging tags size or the size you are seeing it now.
Bringing the brand to life
Utilising modern Lottie files I created a set of animated USP (unique selling point) icons. These add a touch of life and humour to the site. Lottie files are a superb was to bring life into a Shopify store, either by micro interactions or branded elements.
Branded print materials
Utilising my brand and print experience I was able to have one eye on the Shopify website design and the other on the packaging and print. Making sure that the brand would be seamless through all touchpoints. From Liberty London to Laptop.
Crafting a memorable shopping experience
The new Shopify website design was created onto a new theme. I was able to bring in all the quirkiness of the new brand, it was just a case of where. The client wanted a memorable experience but it also needed to be a sound shopping experience with no pain points. This is where my first decade of branding experience and my most recent decade of UI and UX experience came in handy.
Mobile user interface screens
Here are the opening screens through the mobile purchasing journey. I brought the journey to life by using the brand patterns that I created and also brought in key shopping messages and purchase converters in a fun and memorable way.
Bringing a touch of Hollywood glamour to the UI
Playing with the Wes Anderson vibe of the brand and giving the website a cinematic feel I played with little design touches throughout the site. A couple of my favourites are the poster style review stars for the nav items and also the way the curtain patterns animate in when journeying through the site giving the website a nod to those happy memories of a film starting at a cinema.
An adaptable website for the whole gifting calendar
As the gifting sector is very reliant on seasons, a key concept that I came up with was the ability for the site to change colour depending on which gifting season it was. So for example Christmas would be green, Fathers day Blue, Valentines day Red. The Design system was set up so this was all mapped out and an easy option to implement.
